Welcome to Tough Love for Blogs

Do you ever happen onto a blog and blink rapidly? Wonder what the blogger was thinking when they chose that layout? Wonder what went wrong? A blog that you can't read because of the way it looks?

I will admit...YES! Okay. I don't read blogs with black backgrounds and white lettering. I have to squint. It's a personal issue. I know.

But often I run across a blog that makes me want to email the person and apply a little tough love.

We're going to start with Aaron Whomsley, handyman. Aaron is using the tag cloud. There's probably a reason. Maybe it increases his hits on searches. Does anyone know the true purpose of a tag cloud??

Why not use just categories? I have a hard time reading the tag cloud or finding anything of any sense in there. Am I wrong to hate the tag cloud?

Have you seen a blog that makes you take pause? Share it with me!

  1. hehe I like the tag cloud. It's...I don't know...just fun looking. But it doesn't need to show every single category that you have. It should NOT take up half the size of your blog. It shouldn't overwhelm your reader. Keep it small and simple.

  4. He doesn't have categories listed there. It's a tag cloud. He tags his posts. Which is fine. But why are the tags used over and over..handyman, Pennsylvania, they're on their more than once.
